Serge Zigabe Mushamuka, MD

Physician and Pediatrician

Dr. Serge Zigabe Mushamuka is a physician and pediatrician trained at the Catholic University of Bukavu (UCB) in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the University of Liège in Belgium. He graduated as a pediatrician from UCB in 2019.

He currently works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Provincial General Referral Hospital of Bukavu (HPGRB) and is a member of the scientific staff at the Centre for Tropical Diseases and Global Health (CTDGH) at UCB.

He is pursuing a PhD in Public Health and Primary Care at KU Leuven, Belgium, where his research focuses on household air pollution, early-life environmental exposures, and child health. His current work investigates the effects of biomass-fuel-related air pollution exposure on the gut–respiratory axis, growth, and respiratory health of infants in South Kivu, DRC.
