Prof. David LUPANDE Mwenebitu, MD, MSc, PhD

Pr David LUPANDE Mwenebitu is a clinical microbiologist and infectious-disease researcher with more than 10 years of experience in clinical and molecular microbiology, infectious-disease diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), One Health, outbreak investigation, laboratory strengthening and clinical research. He holds an MD from the Université Catholique de Bukavu, an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the University of Kinshasa, specialised training in bacteriology, virology and outbreak investigation, and a PhD in Medical Microbiology from Aix-Marseille Université, France.

Expertise

At CTDGH-UCB, he leads laboratory operations and research spanning molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, laboratory quality management, biosafety, diagnostic evaluation, genomic surveillance and training. His research focuses on emerging and re-emerging infections, antimicrobial-resistant pathogens and integrated One Health surveillance at the human-animal-environment interface.

He has contributed to outbreak response and research activities involving mpox, Ebola/filovirus disease, cholera and other epidemic-prone infections in eastern DRC, and has participated in multicentre diagnostic and clinical research collaborations with African and international partners. His recent scientific work includes mpox diagnostics, Ebola research, AMR, uropathogenic bacteria, cholera genomics, fungal diseases and infectious-disease surveillance.
